Basic Components Of Physical Fitness
When I was younger, our physical
education classes seemed to be focused on the
basic components of physical fitness.
Though there were a lot of days when we did things
that seemed as if they were just for fun, there
was almost always an "underlying theme" of exercise
involved in them. I usually enjoyed gym class
and always looked forward to those special days when
I knew we'd be playing games. It didn’t matter where we
played, inside or out, I always had lots of fun. The
fitness teacher was really cool, and he was good
at making us forget that we were really doing
something healthy for our bodies. We were going with the
flow and enjoying ourselves, but also getting a good
workout at the same time.
Physical fitness is something that must stay
in the school systems. It me sad when I see news
reports that state how many schools are removing
physical fitness activities from their daily routines. As
someone that works from their computer, I spend much of my
time sitting down. I wish that my job involved
a bit more physical activity. I know that sitting in
a classrom all day long is also something that can't be
good for a child's health either. Taking away the basic
components of physical fitness during the school
day would be a big mistake for these kids, our
future. The kids not only need to learn, but they
also need to take care of their bodies. Exercise has
also been proven to increase mental
alertness.
If you happen to live in a school system that no longer
is offering physical fitness, then you need to make
time to look into this matter on your own. Make
sure your kids are playing outside most days after
school. I know this is difficult for some families,
especially when both parents work out of the home. Even
walking for exercise
is an excellent way to help to stay fit and can be
enjoyed by the entire family. This is when you have to
take the time and make physical fitness happen.
Spend some time on the weekends taking walks with
your family, or get involved in a community sports
program. Get your kids memberships at the YMCA or, better
yet, invest in fitness equipment that they can use right in the
home. There are several different home gyms, elliptical
trainers, treadmills and more that would benefit the entire
family.
Because so many schools are now removing physical
fitness programs, many communities are going to
bat for their children's benefit. You may find some great
family activities by looking in your local newspaper
or maybe on your cities Internet site. Many
communities are now organizing sports leagues that
are provided at no cost for anyone that
would care to participate. If your
area offers these sports programs, I
strongly suggest you get yourself and your kids
involved. This is not only to encourage the basic components
of physical fitness, but also a sense of community working
together.
